I just bought a Yerba Buena plant at Sloat Garden Center in the avenues. Hope people plant it everywhere! It's great!

I was born in San Francisco and lived there as a child. I vividly remember, as a 4 or 5 year old, the smell of a plant growing around the fringes of the Marina Green that I later knew to be Yerba Buena. The scent still continues to bring on an almost painful nostalgia every time I smell it

As an herbal medicine, a decoction (boil leaves then strain) of Yerba Buena is effective for minor ailments such as headaches, toothaches and joint pains. It can also relive stomach aches due to gas buildup and indigestion. The fresh and dried leaves can both be used for the decoction. And because Yerba Buena belongs to the mint family, soaking fresh leaves in a glass of water (30 to 45 minutes) makes for a good mouth wash for a clean, fresh smelling breath.

My aunt uses Yerba Buena as a pain reliever. She says she picked its use up from some native American Indians she knew.
